As we know, DPF REGEN is a vital feature for maintaining optimal DPF performance. Now, we are excited to introduce a new graphical interface for DPF regeneration on LAUNCH diagnostic tablets, providing a significant upgrade for technicians. This enhanced feature allows them to monitor critical data in real time with greater clarity and ease, ensuring the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) maintains peak performance. The regeneration process typically takes about 30 minutes, and with the new interface, key metrics such as speed, temperature, and pressure related to the exhaust aftertreatment system can now be viewed instantly at a glance.

Previously, technicians could track the DPF regen process by scrolling through data in a text-based display. The newly designed graphical interface, however, simplifies this experience. Now available for all commercial vehicles using the X-431 PAD5 LINK HD and X-431 PRO3 LINK HD, as well as major passenger car brands using LAUNCH X-431 diagnostic tablets, this update provides a clear visual representation of the process, making it easier than ever to track performance and monitor regeneration.

ALL ABOUT THE DPF REGEN YOU NEED TO KNOW

1. What is DPF Regen?

The DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is a crucial component in the exhaust system of diesel vehicles, capturing and filtering particulates from engine emissions to reduce pollution. During engine idling, technicians can initiate DPF regeneration using a diagnostic scan tool. The DPF regeneration process primarily involves periodically using combustion to oxidize and remove accumulated particulates from the filter, ensuring its performance remains optimal and stable.

2. When to perform DPF Regen?

DPF regeneration is required in the following situations:

a) Replacement of the exhaust back pressure sensor.

b) Removal or replacement of the particulate filter.

c) Removal or replacement of the fuel additive injector.

d) Removal or replacement of the catalytic oxidizer.

e) When the DPF regeneration warning light is on; perform regeneration after repairs.

f) Repair or replacement of the DPF regeneration control module.

3. What is the principal of the DPF Regen process?

As the DPF accumulates particulates, it gradually becomes clogged, affecting exhaust efficiency. To address this, DPF regeneration heats the exhaust system to burn off the accumulated particulates, converting them into gases like carbon dioxide and thus cleaning the filter. DPF regeneration can be performed in two ways:

Active Regeneration: The vehicle’s ECU controls fuel injection or increases exhaust temperature to automatically initiate the regeneration process.

Passive Regeneration: During normal vehicle operation, the increase in exhaust temperature naturally completes the regeneration process.

This function is crucial for ensuring that diesel vehicles meet emission standards and maintain power and fuel efficiency.

4. How to perform DPF Regen using a LAUNCH X-431 diagnostic tool?

Step 1: Connect the diagnostic tool to the vehicle.

Step 2: Select the vehicle engine model.

Step 3: Navigate to DPF Regen function on your diagnostic tablet.

Step 4: Start the DPF regeneration process using your diagnostic tablet.

Step 5: Monitor the process and ensure it completes successfully.

5. How long does the DPF Regen take?

The complete DPF regeneration process typically takes about 20 to 40 minutes, depending on several factors, including:

a) Vehicle Model: Different vehicles may have varying DPF designs, engine configurations, and exhaust systems, all of which can affect how quickly the regeneration process occurs. Some vehicles are optimized for faster regeneration.

b) Level of DPF Blockage: The more particulates and soot accumulated in the DPF, the longer the regeneration process may take. Heavily clogged filters will need more time for combustion to burn off the particulates and restore optimal filter function.

Additional factors influencing the process duration include regeneration type (Active or Passive), the specific diagnostic tool used, vehicle load and operating conditions, ambient temperature, fuel quality, and overall vehicle performance.

6. Which LAUNCH diagnostic tools support DPF Regen?

LAUNCH diagnostic tools support DPF regeneration, not only through the X-431 tablets but also via some CRP/CRE scanners, including:

· Creader Professional 919S(359)

· Creader Professional 919S Lite(349)

· Creader 909S(349)

· Creader 129S (239)

· Creader 123S (233)

· Creader Elite X, and more.

7. Are all vehicle diagnostics by LAUNCH X-431 tablets GRAPHICAL for DPF Regen?

Currently, the X-431 PAD5 LINK HD and X-431 PRO3 LINK HD scan tools support the DPF Regen feature in a graphical format for almost all commercial vehicles. Additionally, several mainstream passenger cars are supported with graphical DPF Regen on the following X-431 diagnostic tools, including:

· X-431 PAD9 LINK

· X-431 PAD7 LINK

· X-431 PAD5 LINK

· X-431 PRO3 LINK

· X-431 PRO3 SE

· X-431 PRO SE
